Find answers to common questions about physiotherapy
Your first appointment will include a comprehensive assessment where we'll discuss your medical history, current symptoms, and goals for treatment. This is followed by a physical examination to identify the root cause of your issues. By the end of the session, you'll receive a diagnosis, treatment plan, and possibly some initial therapy. Plan for this appointment to last about 60 minutes.
The number of sessions varies greatly depending on your condition, its severity, and how your body responds to treatment. Some patients experience significant relief after 2-3 sessions, while chronic conditions may require ongoing care. After your initial assessment, we'll provide an estimated treatment timeline, which we'll continually reassess and adjust based on your progress.
In most cases, no referral is necessary as physiotherapists are primary care providers. You can book an appointment directly with us. However, if you plan to use health insurance, some plans require a doctor's referral for coverage. We recommend checking with your insurance provider about their specific requirements before your visit.
Physiotherapy shouldn't be painful, though you may experience some discomfort during certain treatments, particularly when working on injured or tight tissues. Our therapists are trained to work within your comfort level, and we encourage open communication about your pain threshold. Any temporary discomfort should be balanced by improvement in your symptoms after treatment. If you ever feel significant pain during a session, please let your therapist know immediately.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that allow for movement and provide access to the area being treated. For lower body issues, shorts or loose pants are ideal. For upper body concerns, tank tops or t-shirts work well. Athletic wear is generally appropriate. If you're coming directly from work, we can provide gowns or shorts if needed.
Many insurance plans include coverage for physiotherapy services, but benefits vary widely. We accept most major insurance providers and can verify your coverage before treatment begins. We also offer reasonable self-pay rates for those without insurance coverage. Our administrative team is happy to help you understand your benefits and any out-of-pocket costs you might expect.
